FUZZY TWIG IS SAVED

FUZZY TWIG LOVED TO READ. SHE LIKED TO SIT BY A NICE SHADE TREE AND READ ABOUT HER FAVORITE HERO.

HER FAVORITE HERO WAS SUPERTWIG. HE WAS VERY STRONG AND BRAVE. SUPERTWIG HAD MANY ADVENTURES AND FUZZY LOVED TO READ ABOUT ALL OF THEM.

SUPER TWIG WAS FASTER THAN A SPEEDING JET PLANE.

SUPERTWIG WAS STRONGER THAN A BULLDOZER.

SUPERTWIG WAS ABLE TO LEAP OVER TALL MOUNTAINS. FUZZY REALLY LOVED TO READ ABOUT SUPERTWIG.

ONE VERY WINDY DAY FUZZY WAS WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL WHEN A LARGE TREE FELL OVER AND TRAPPER HER LEG. SHE COULD NOT GET LOOSE. SHE CALLED OUT FOR HELP AS LOUD AS SHE COULD YELL. NO ONE HEARD HER CALLS, EXCEPT --,

SUPERTWIG! HE TOLD FUZZY TO HOLD STILL AND QUIT PULLING UNTIL HE LIFTED THE TREE.

WHEN SUPERTWIG LIFTED THE TREE FUZZY PULLED HER LEG OUT AND STOOD UP. SHE WAS NOT HURT. FUZZY ASKED SUPERTWIG IF HE WOULD LIKE TO COME TO MEET HER FAMILY AND HAVE DINNER. HE SAID HE WOULD LIKE THAT BUT HE DID NOT HAVE TIME. HE MUST GO TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE WHO WAS IN TROUBLE.

WHEN FUZZY TOLD HER FAMILY ABOUT THE TREE FALLING AND SUPERTWIG RESCUING HER, THORNY SAID, “THAT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MADE IT UP.” KNOBBY SAID, “BALONEY!” TWIGMAN AND LEAFY TWIG SAID THEY BELIEVED THE STORY AND WERE VERY HAPPY THAT SUPERTWIG SAVED THEIR LITTLE GIRL.

THORNY TWIG FINDS PENNIES

ONE DAY WHEN THORNY TWIG WAS WALKING WITH HIS FATHER THEY SAW A PENNY LYING ON THE GROUND. TWIGMAN TOLD THORNY TWIG TO PICK IT UP . THORNY SAID “DAD, IT IS JUST A PENNY!” TWIGMAN SAID, “IF A PENNY YOU SHOULD FIND, KEEP THIS THOUGHT WITHIN YOUR MIND. ONE IS MONEY. TWO IS MORE. A THIRD ONE BRINGS GOOD LUCK GALORE!”

THORNY PICKED UP THE PENNY AND SAID, “BUT THIS IS ONLY ONE PENNY!” TWIGMAN TOLD HIM THAT WAS ALL RIGHT THEY MIGHT FIND MORE.

SOON THEY FOUND ANOTHER PENNY AND TWIGMAN HAD TO REPEAT, “IF A PENNY YOU SHOULD FIND, KEEP THIS THOUGHT WITHIN YOUR MIND. ONE IS MONEY. TWO IS MORE. THE THIRD ONE BRINGS GOOD LUCK GALORE.” THORNY GRUMBLED A LITTLE BUT HE PICKED UP THE COIN.

WHEN THEY SAW A THIRD PENNY ON THE GROUND THORNY WAS SURPRISED AND NOW THORNY WAS BEGINNING TO BELIEVE HIS DAD SO HE QUICKLY PICKED UP THE THIRD PENNY.

IN A LITTLE WHILE THEY FOUND A QUARTER AND THORNY WAS HAPPY TO PICK THAT UP AS TWIGMAN SAID, “SEE, I TOLD YOU THERE WOULD BE GOOD LUCK!”

WHEN TWIGMAN TOLD THORNY IT WAS TIME TO GO HOME THORNY SAID, “GEE, DAD I WANT TO LOOK FOR THREE MORE PENNIES!”

THORNY TWIG AND THE PURPLE FOOTED GHOST

TWIGMAN HAD A NICE GRAPE ARBOR WHERE HE GREW LOTS OF PURPLE GRAPES THAT WERE DELICIOUS TO EAT.

HE GREW MORE GRAPES THAN THE FAMILY COULD EAT SO EVERY YEAR THE FAMILY WOULD MAKE GRAPE JUICE WITH THE EXTRA GRAPES. ONE DAY THEY FINISHED PICKING THE GRAPES TOO LATE IN THE DAY TO MAKE THE JUICE SO THEY LEFT THEM OUT IN THE YARD IN BIG TUBS. THEY WOULD MAKE THE GRAPE JUICE THE NEXT DAY.

THAT NIGHT, WHEN ALL THE TWIG CHILDREN WERE FAST ASLEEP, A NOISE WOKE THORNY AND HE SAT UP IN BED. HE HEARD, SQUEEESH, SQUISH, SQUEEESH, SQUISH.

HE WOKE KNOBBY AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THE NOISE. THEY BOTH HEARD SQUEEESH, SQUISH, SQUEEESH, SQUISH. THORNY SAID, "LET'S GO OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT IS MAKING THAT NOISE."

KNOBBY SAID, "I AM NOT GOING OUTSIDE! IT MIGHT BE A GHOST!" SO THORNY WENT OUT TO SEE WHAT WAS MAKING THAT SQUEESH, SQUISH, SQUEEESH, SQUISH. IT WAS A GHOST! HE WAS STANDING IN A GRAPE TUB STOMPING GRAPES! SQUEEESH, SQUISH, SQUEEESH, SQUISH.

WHEN THE GHOST SAW THORNY HE JUMPED OUT OF THE GRAPE TUB AND STARTED TOWARD HIM. HIS FEET WERE PURPLE FROM THE GRAPE JUICE.

THORNY STARTED TO RUN AND THE PURPLE FOOTED GHOST RAN AFTER HIM.

WHEN THORNY GOT SO TIRED HE COULD NOT RUN ANY MORE HE GAVE UP AND SAT DOWN ON A LOG. HE WOULD HAVE TO LET THE PURPLE FOOTED GHOST GET HIM. BUT THE PURPLE FOOTED GHOST DID NOT HARM THORNY. HE JUST TOLD THORNY ABOUT BEING A GRAPE STOMPER WHEN HE WAS ALIVE AND THANKED HIM FOR A CHANCE TO ENJOY HIS OLD WORK. THE PURPLE FOOTED GHOST DISAPPEARED.

THORNY DECIDED TO TELL NO ONE ABOUT THIS GHOST BECAUSE HE THOUGHT NO ONE WOULD BELIEVE HIM BUT THE NEXT DAY WHEN THEY WENT TO MAKE THE GRAPE JUICE, ALL THE GRAPES IN THAT ONE TUB HAD BEEN TURNED INTO JUICE.

KNOBBY TWIG AND THE SMILEY GHOST

ONE DAY KNOBBY TWIG WAS WALKING THROUGH HAPPY ROCK VALLEY. MOST OF THE ROCKS IN THE VALLEY HAD SMILEY FACES DRAWN ON THEM.

KNOBBY WAS ALWAYS A JOKESTER AND HE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO DRAW A FROWNEY FACE ON A ROCK IN HAPPY ROCK VALLEY. HE DREW A BIG FROWNEY FACE ON A LARGE ROCK.

HE SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD "EEEYAH! HAH! HAH! HAH!" A HUGE GHOST WITH A SMILEY FACE WAS HANGING OVER HIM. HE WAS SCARED!

KNOBBY STARTED TO RUN BUT THE LOUD "EEEYAH! HAH! HAH! HAH!" WAS ALMOST BREAKING HIS EARS AS THE SMILEY FACE GHOST CHASED HIM.

SUDDENLY THE GHOST WAS IN FRONT OF HIM STILL MAKING THAT EEEYAH! HAH! HAH! HAH! SOUND. KNOBBY BEGGED, "PLEASE DON'T HURT ME MR GHOST!" THE GHOST SAID, "YOU DREW A FROWNEY FACE IN HAPPY ROCK VALLEY! I WILL HAUNT YOU FOR EVER!"

KNOBBY RAN BACK TO HIS FROWNEY FACE ROCK AND ERASED THE FROWNEY FACE. HE THEN DREW THE HAPPIEST FACE HE COULD ON THE SAME ROCK. THE GHOST DISAPPEARED BUT KNOBBY HEARD A SOFT, "THANK YOU." AND KNOBBY NEVER DREW A FROWNEY FACE ANYWHERE AFTER THAT.

TWIG CHILDREN VISIT A CASTLE

IN THE FOREST NEAR THE TWIGMAN HOME THERE WAS A LARGE OLD HOUSE WHERE NO ONE LIVED. IT HAD BEEN EMPTY MANY YEARS AND LOOKED LIKE A HAUNTED PLACE. THEY CALLED IT PEGLEG'S CASTLE BECAUSE THE MAN WHO BUILT IT AND THE ONLY ONE TO LIVE IN IT HAD ONE WOODEN LEG. THE HOUSE DID LOOK LIKE A CASTLE. PEGLEG DIED IN THE UPSTAIRS OF THE CASTLE MANY YEARS AGO. SOME PEOPLE SAID HIS GHOST WAS STILL THERE IN THAT UPSTAIRS ROOM.

ONE DAY THORNY AND KNOBBY FELT VERY BRAVE AS THEY WALKED BY PEGLEG'S CASTLE. THEY DECIDED TO EXPLORE THE OLD HAUNTED HOUSE. FUZZY WHO WAS WITH THEM DID NOT WANT TO GO NEAR THE OLD HOUSE AND SHE SAID, "I'M SCARED!" KNOBBY SAID JUST WHAT HE ALWAYS SAYS, "YOU'RE ALWAYS SCARED!" THORNY SAID, "GO WITH US OR STAY HERE! DO WHAT YOU WANT! WE ARE GOING IN!" FUZZY WAS MORE AFRAID OF STAYING ALONE THAN SHE WAS OF GOING INTO THE GHOST HOUSE SO SHE WENT WITH HER BROTHERS.

ALL WENT WELL AS THE LOOKED AROUND THE MESS ON THE FIRST FLOOR. THERE WERE SPIDER WEBS AND DUST OVER EVERYTHING BUT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF A GHOST.
THEY STARTED UP THE STAIRS TO THE SECOND FLOOR. WHEN THEY WERE HALF WAY UP THEY HEARD A KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP! FUZZY THOUGHT THE NOISE MUST BE COMING FROM THE GHOST OF PEGLEG. KNOBBY SAID, "THAT IS SILLY! GHOSTS DO NOT HAVE WOODEN LEGS!" THORNY SAID THE NOISE MUST BE THE WIND BLOWING A LOOSE SHUTTER. THEY WENT ON UP THE STAIRS TO THE UPSTAIRS HALL.

WHEN THEY WERE CREEPING DOWN THE HALL VERY QUIETLY THEY HEARD IT AGAIN, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP! FUZZY SAID IN A QUIVERING VOICE, "I AM REALLY SCARED NOW!" THORNY STILL THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS A WIND BANGING A SHUTTER. KNOBBY WAS NOT SO SURE.

KNOBBY AND THORNY DECIDED TO LOOK IN THE ROOM WHERE THE KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP WAS LOUDEST. FUZZY WANTED TO RUN AWAY.

THEY OPENED THE DOOR AND A HUGE GHOST WITH A PEGLEG WAS FLOATING TOWARD THEM. AS IT FLOATED TOWARD THEM IT WOULD BANG THE WOODEN LEG ON THE FLOOR, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP, KERTHUMP, JUST LIKE IT WAS WALKING ON THAT WOODEN LEG.

THORNY, KNOBBY, AND FUZZY RAN DOWN THE STAIRS AND OUT OF THE HOUSE AS FAST AS THEY COULD RUN. FUZZY WHO WAS LITTLEST RAN THE FASTEST BECAUSE SHE WAS THE SCAREDEST. AND YOU CAN BE SURE THE TWIG CHILDREN NEVER WENT INSIDE THE HAUNTED PEGLEG'S CASTLE AGAIN.

TWIGMAN AND THE SYCAMORE TREE

ONE DAY TWIGMAN WAS WALKING HOME FROM A HARD DAY OF WORK. HE WAS VERY TIRED FROM HIS HARD WORK AND DECIDED TO SIT DOWN BY A SYCAMORE TREE TO REST. HE DID NOT NOTICE THE MANY SYCAMORE TWIGS LAYING ON THE GROUND. HE FELL ASLEEP.

HE AWOKE WHEN HE HEARD THE GRUMBLING OF THE TREE OWNER AS HE WAS PILING UP THE SYCAMORE TWIGS TO DISPOSE OF THEM. TWIGMAN SAID, "OH, OH, I HAD BETTER GET OUT OF HERE AND HE STARTED TO SLIP AWAY.

THE GROUCHY TREE OWNER YELLED, "YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY FROM ME THAT EASY!" AND HE STARTED TO CHASE TWIGMAN.

TWIGMAN DID NOT GET AWAY. THE GROUCHY OLD TREE OWNER CAUGHT TWIGMAN AND PUT HIM ON TOP OF THE PILE OF SYCAMORE TWIGS.

HE WAS GETTING READY TO TIE UP THE BUNDLE WHEN TWIGMAN SAID, "I AM NOT A SYCAMORE TWIG! I AM AN OAK TWIG AND I HAVE A WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN TO SUPPORT. PLEASE LET ME GO!"

THE SYCAMORE TREE OWNER JUST LOOKED GROUCHY. HE WAS REALLY KIND HEARTED AND HE LET TWIGMAN LOOSE. TWIGMAN SAID THANKS BUT HE DID NOT LOSE ANY TIME GETTING AWAY AS HE RAN FOR HIS LIFE. THE TREE OWNER LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.

FUZZY TWIG GETS A CHICKEN

FUZZY TWIG LIKED CHICKENS. SHE DID NOT LIKE TO EAT THEM. SHE JUST LIKED TO LOOK AT THEM AND PLAY WITH THEM. SHE WOULD OFTEN GO TO A NEIGHBOR FARM JUST TO WATCH THE CHICKENS IN THEIR PEN.

ONE DAY FUZZY WAS WATCHING THE CHICKENS WHEN FARMER SYCAMORE SAW WHAT SHE WAS DOING.

FARMER SYCAMORE HAD LOTS OF CHICKENS AND HE ASKED FUZZY IF SHE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE FOR A PET. FUZZY JUMPED UP AND DOWN AND CRIED OUT, YES! YES! SHE KNEW HER MOTHER DID NOT MIND IF SHE HAD A PET CHICKEN.

SHE TOOK THE CHICKEN HOME AND PLAYED WITH IT EVERY DAY. SHE NAMED THE NEW PET BUGSY BECAUSE IT LOVED TO CHASE AND CATCH GRASSHOPPERS AND BUGS TO EAT.

ONE DAY BUGSY CAUGHT A BUG THAT WAS TOO BIG TO SWALLOW. IT WAS AN AWFUL LOOKING BUG. FUZZY WAS AFRAID OF THE BUG BUT SHE TOOK IT TO HER DADDY TO FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF A BUG IT WAS. TWIGMAN SAID, "WHY THAT IS A Y2K BUG AND BUGSY SHOULD NOT TRY TO EAT IT BECAUSE IF SHE DOES THE BUG MIGHT MAKE HER SICK. LOTS OF PEOPLE GET SICK JUST THINKING ABOUT THE Y2K BUG!"

FUZZY LET THE BUG LOOSE BUT IT WOULD NOT GO AWAY. IT JUST STAYED IN HER FRONT YARD.

BUGSY CAUGHT THE Y2K BUG AGAIN AND THIS TIME SHE WAS ABLE TO SWALLOW IT. IT DID NOT MAKE HER SICK AND FUZZY WAS HAPPY THAT THE Y2K BUG HAD BEEN GOTTEN RID OF SO EASILY.
