TWIGMAN AND THE CACTUS
IN THE MEADOW NEAR THE FOREST WHERE TWIGMAN WORKED THERE GREW SOME PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS. THEY HAD LONG SHARP NEEDLES ON THEM BUT IN THE LATE SPRING THEY HAD BLOOMS ON THEM WHICH WERE VERY BEAUTIFUL.
TWIGMAN BROUGHT SOME OF THEM HOME TO PLANT ON HIS FRONT LAWN. LEAFY TWIG TOLD HIM THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THEM BECAUSE THE CHILDREN MIGHT GET STUCK BY THE NEEDLES. TWIGMAN SAID HE WOULD TELL THE CHILDREN TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
THE CHILDREN WERE CAREFUL AND DID NOT GO NEAR THE PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO SEE WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE WHEN THE BLOOMS CAME IN THE SPRING AND BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO GET STUCK WITH THE CACTUS NEEDLES.
ONE DAY TWIGMAN WAS PLAYING BASEBALL WITH THE BOYS. HE BACKED UP WHILE TRYING TO CATCH A BALL AND FELL ON THE CACTUS RICHT ON HIS BACK SIDE. HE YELLED YEOOW!
WHILE TWIGMAN LAID ON THE KITCHEN TABLE LEAFY TWIG PULLED OUT THE NEEDLES. TWIGMAN LET OUT A BIG YEOOW WHEN EACH ONE WAS PULLED. KNOBBY WANTED TO PULL SOME OF THEM AND THORNY DID TOO. FUZZY SAID, "NOW WE WONT GET TO SEE WHAT THE BLOOMS LOOK LIKE." TWIGMAN JUST YELLED YEOOW AS LEAFY PULLED OUT ANOTHER NEEDLE WITH A SMILE ON HER FACE.
