TWIGMAN'S CHILDREN CAMP OUT

ON A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER EVENING THORNY TWIG AND KNOBBY TWIG WANTED TO CAMP OUT IN THEIR FRONT YARD. THEY ASKED PERMISSION FROM THEIR MOTHER, LEAFY TWIG. FUZZY TWIG SAID, " I WANT TO CAMP OUT TOO. PLEASE MOMMY, CAN I?"

THORNY AND KNOBBY SAID SHE WAS TOO LITTLE TO CAMP OUT WITH THEM BUT LEAFY TOLD THEM THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THEIR LITTLE SISTER OR THERE WOULD BE NO CAMPOUT. THORNY SAID TO FUZZY, "WHAT IF WE SEE A GHOST? YOU WILL BE REALLY SCARED!" LEAFY TOLD FUZZY SHE HAD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THEY WERE NOT GOING TO SEE A GHOST. TWIGMAN JUST SMILED AND SAID NOTHING.

THAT EVENING THE CHILDREN PUT UP A TENT ON THE FRONT LAWN. THEY BUILT A NICE CAMP FIRE AND ROASTED HOT DOGS AND MARSHMALLOWS AND TOLD GHOST STORIES. WHEN THE FIRE BURNED OUT IT WAS LATE AND TIME FOR THEM TO GO TO SLEEP. FUZZY WAS JUST A LITTLE BIT AFRAID BUT SHE WENT IN THE TENT WITH HER BROTHERS AND THEY ALL FELL ASLEEP BECAUSE IT WAS LATE AND THEY WERE VERY TIRED.

BEFORE LONG THEY HEARD A LOW WHOOOO, WHOOO. FUZZY WAS REALLY SCARED BY NOW AND SHE SAID, "W W WHAT WAS THAT?" KNOBBY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A GHOST. THORNY SAID NOTHING.

THE TENT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE WHOOOO, WHOOOO WAS REALLY LOUD NOW. FUZZY WAILED, "I'M SCARED!". THORNY LOOKED OUT THE END OF THE TENT AND SAW THE GHOST HAD LEGS AND FEET STICKING OUT BELOW THE SHEET. HE WHISPERED TO KNOBBY, "I THINK SOMEONE IS PLAYING A JOKE ON US. YOU KEEP BEGGING FOR HIM NOT TO HURT US AND I WILL GO OUTSIDE AND FIX HIS LITTLE JOKE.

KNOBBY KEPT PLEADING, "PLEASE MR GHOST DON'T HURT US!" FUZZY KEPT SAYING, "I'M SCARED!" AND SHE REALLY WAS SCARED. THORNY WENT OUT THE OTHER END OF THE TENT AND PICKED UP A PIECE OF FIRE WOOD. THE GHOST WAS REALLY SHAKING THE TENT HARD AND YELLING WHOOO, WHOOO, VERY LOUD. HE DID NOT SEE THORNY CRAWLING TOWARD HIM.

THORNY BROUGHT THE STICK OF FIRE WOOD DOWN ON ONE FOOT OF THE GHOST WITH A LOUD WHACK.

THE GHOST SHEET DROPPED TO THE GROUND AND TWIGMAN WAS HOPPING AROUND ON ONE FOOT HOLDING THE OTHER WITH HIS HANDS AND YELLING EEEYOW! BY THIS TIME LEAFY WHO HAD HEARD THE NOISE IN THE FRONT YARD WAS LAUGHING AND TELLING TWIGMAN, "I TOLD YOU NOT TO PLAY ANY JOKES ON THOSE KIDS. THE JOKE TURNS OUT TO BE ON YOU!" EVERYONE HAD A BIG LAUGH. EVERYONE EXCEPT TWIGMAN. HIS FOOT WAS STILL HURTING. THE BROTHERS WENT BACK INTO THE TENT AND WENT TO SLEEP WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACES BUT FUZZY SPENT THE REST OF THE NIGHT IN THE HOUSE.
